7. Shared ‘Sponge-Sticks’
Their belief that the dead feed on feces should be the least of your disgust. In ancient Rome, Romans share sponge-sticks after making their business in public toilets. A sponge-stick was the ‘toilet paper’ of ancient Romans. Instead of water or toilet paper, they used a sponge which was attached to a stick to clean their buttocks after defecating. More so, this sponge doesn’t get cleaned after each use but is shared and used by everyone who visited the public toilet.
